Our mission is to provide clean, green, safe, and accessible open spaces for everyone to enjoy. First Street Park is just one of the many beautiful parks within the 2,300 acres of parkland we oversee throughout Boston. Our department is proud to maintain 217 city parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and more, ensuring that Boston remains a vibrant and livable city.
We are committed to offering a variety of activities and events for all ages. This summer, don't miss the free family favorite movies in neighborhood parks, or the lively Tito Puente Latin Music Series, which returns in July and August. For those looking for unique experiences, the Alianza traveling beer garden, brought to you in partnership with Roundhead Brewing Company and Fresh Food Generation, is a must-visit.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, our Tree Removal and Parks and Recreation Commission hearings are being conducted online to ensure the safety of our community. We also manage three active cemeteries and 16 historic burying grounds, preserving Boston's rich history.
