ICA Watershed: A Unique Art Experience in East Boston
Welcome to the ICA Watershed, a vibrant art gallery located in the historic Boston Harbor Shipyard and Marina at 256 Marginal Street, East Boston, MA 02128. Transforming a 15,000-square-foot former industrial space into a cultural asset, the ICA Watershed offers a unique blend of contemporary art, community engagement, and stunning harbor views.
Explore Our Exhibitions and Events
Each summer, the Watershed hosts a single, thought-provoking exhibition that captivates and inspires visitors. Past installations have included immersive video art, monumental sculptures, and innovative projects utilizing reclaimed materials. In addition to exhibitions, the Watershed offers a flexible space for workshops, programming, and community-focused events.
Visit Us
The ICA Watershed is open seasonally from late May through Labor Day, with hours from 11 AM to 5 PM. Admission is free, and no ticket is required to explore the Watershed itself. However, for an enhanced experience, consider reserving a Water Shuttle ticket, which includes admission to the ICA Museum in Seaport. The Water Shuttle, provided by Red Top Boats, operates every 15 minutes, offering a scenic journey across the harbor.
Accessibility and Transportation
The Watershed is easily accessible via various modes of transportation. Public transit users can take the MBTA Blue Line to Maverick Station, just 0.5 miles from the gallery. For those driving, accessible parking is available on-site, and limited metered street parking can be found nearby. Cyclists will appreciate the bike racks and Blue Bike station on Marginal Street.
Community and Collaboration
The ICA Watershed is more than just an art space; it is a hub for community collaboration and cultural exchange. Throughout the pandemic, it served as a food distribution site, supporting local families in need. The Watershed continues to partner with local organizations to offer enriching programs and activities that resonate with East Boston's diverse community.
