About the Business

Welcome to Smith Field, your gateway to Boston's lush and vibrant green spaces! Located at 235 Western Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, Smith Field is a proud steward of over 2,300 acres of pristine parkland spread across the city. Our mission is to create and maintain clean, green, safe, and accessible open spaces for everyone to enjoy.
As part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, we oversee 217 city parks, including playgrounds, athletic fields, two golf courses, and an array of historic sites, including 16 historic and three active cemeteries. Our commitment extends to the care of approximately 125,000 trees, contributing to the city's beautiful urban canopy, including the iconic Emerald Necklace.
During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our Tree Removal and Parks and Recreation Commission hearings are conducted online to ensure public safety. Despite these changes, we continue to offer a rich calendar of free events and activities. Enjoy family-favorite movies in your neighborhood parks or experience the vibrant sounds of the six-concert Tito Puente Latin Music Series returning to Boston parks in July and August.
This summer, don't miss the unique Alianza traveling beer garden, brought to you by Roundhead Brewing Company and Fresh Food Generation in partnership with the City of Boston. For those seeking outdoor adventure, explore our comprehensive schedule of activities designed for all ages.
Whether you're looking to relax, explore, or engage with your community, Smith Field and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department invite you to discover the natural beauty and cultural vibrancy of Boston's parks. Visit us and experience the green heart of our city!

"Every Monday night weather permitting all the wonderful beings of Skate Hags get together for a night of skating. The rink is reserved from 6:30pm 8:30pm all wheels welcome!!"
"Pros: Nice little concrete park Awesome pump track Accessible location Cool features (rail, hips, ledges, banks with and without coping) Cool location right next to Harvard Stadium Cons: No tree cover at the skatepark Skate park flow could be better (widen it) Manual pad is a little small No water fountain or bathrooms Kids playing on the pump track made it extremely dangerous (and annoying). Kids are not permitted without adult supervision yet people think it’s ok to ignore these rules at virtually every skatepark in Boston that I’ve been to. Don’t follow the Boston parking laws. Harvard University is on a power trip and tickets cars that otherwise wouldn’t be ticketed if it were the BPD. Got a ticket for not paying a meter on a Sunday. Every car on the street did. Clearly they’re making up their own rules."
