Welcome to the Cambridge Peace Commission

Located at 51 Inman Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Cambridge Peace Commission is a dedicated local government office committed to fostering peace and social justice both within the city and on a global scale. As an official entity of the United States government, our mission is to promote understanding, constructive dialogue, and community cohesion by collaborating with municipal agencies, faith communities, nonprofits, and residents.

Since its inception in 1982, initially as the "Cambridge Commission on Nuclear Disarmament and Peace Education," the Peace Commission has been at the forefront of addressing issues of war and peace, particularly in the nuclear age. Our work extends beyond local borders, nurturing Sister City relationships with Les Cayes, Haiti; San José Las Flores, El Salvador; and Yerevan, Armenia. These partnerships are pivotal in our efforts to create citizen-to-citizen exchanges that promote dialogue, understanding, and solidarity.

The Peace Commission is deeply involved in community resilience, particularly in response to traumatic events and violence affecting Cambridge residents. We coordinate compassionate responses to support healing and recovery, ensuring that our community remains a safe, equitable, and peaceful place for all.

Our educational initiatives include forums, discussions, and presentations that raise awareness about local and global peace and social justice issues. We also celebrate the efforts of Cambridge residents through recognition programs and events that honor their contributions to peace and justice.

Join us on the third Wednesday of most months at 6 p.m. in our 2nd Floor Conference Room at 51 Inman Street for our regular meetings. These gatherings are an opportunity to engage with our work, review past meeting minutes, and contribute to our ongoing efforts to build a more connected and understanding community.
