"Full disclosure...I have been a member of TPC for 16 years. Each UU congregation is encouraged to develop its own identity and Theodore Parker Church is no exception. The church is a progressive voice in what is generally seen as one of Boston's more conservative neighborhoods. Its composition reflects that of the neighborhood, meaning that the membership is predominantly white and middle class. A good number of members live in West Roxbury, but people also come from other Boston neighborhoods (especially Roslindale) and from some of the close-in suburbs, such as Dedham. Spiritually, the church is certainly eclectic, but tends to be less Christian in its worship than some nearby UU churches. TPC has a strong Religious Education program for young people and is a Welcoming Congregation, which means that it has gone through a process to reflect on how it is encouraging (and discouraging) the participation of LGBT members and guests. In recent years, a Racial Justice Task Force has led the community's deepening reflection on its responsibility to address issues of racism and racial inequity, both within the congregation and in the wider community. The church is attempting to balance "reaching out" (bringing its spiritual values to active interaction with the surrounding community) and "reaching in" (developing a strong and supportive spiritual and social community among its members). This will always be a work in progress. Sunday services occur weekly at 10:30AM, followed by a coffee hour in the Parish Hall. All are welcome."
