"There's be more stars if the installation of a storm drain a few years ago on the Bike Path between Lake St. and Linwood had been done properly--a lake in the usual spot this morning and surrounding the drain which rises above the level of the water! I'll send a photo separately as I use iPhoto, not Google."
"I dropped my car keys getting out of the car - and saw them fall 8 feet (in slow-motion) into a storm drain. In a panic, I called DPW and the dispatcher said he'd try to get someone to help me fish it out. Just 20 minutes later, "Jeff" showed up and fished my keys (ever-so-skillfully) out of the nasty, autumn leaf-laden drain. In the past, I've lived in some hard-scrabble neighborhoods in Baltimore & Philly - So, I was expecting zero help (with some light giggling on the other end of the line) from Public Works in my time of need. Kudos to Arlington's DPW for assisting this dorkish knucklehead - who will NEVER park near a storm drain again. Many thanks folks!"
"They used to do yard waste recycling every other week. Someone had a brilliant idea of making it every week. Now we have had our yard waste sitting out for a week. They pick up when they want. Does the vendor get a fine if they miss pickup? I mean if we are one minute late in our property taxes the town slaps us with interest and what not"
"The town has done an excellent job taking care of the fields near my house. They are always freshly mowed and couldn’t look better. In the wintertime the roads and sidewalks of Arlington are always well treated and down to pavement."
"The worst possible job plowing the streets. All surrounding towns have done better by far. Mass Ave is a mess, Summer Street, Pleasant Street, Lake Street and so on. What happened to Arlington?!! It used to have the best plowing up until 2-3 years ago, so something must have changed."
