Reviews of Francis Gate Park
"I love to walk here. It is a beautiful historic spot,. There was a flood control drill that damaged the gate. As of 6/12/2022 this repair work is ongoing. Still worth visiting. Check in with park visitor center. I think it will be fixed in a month or so. There is no playground, picnic area, or restrooms. Dogs are ok with cleanup. The area is part of national and state parks. Picnic area available in sheehy park a short walk north."
"Good place to fish"
"One of my favorite spots in Lowell !"
"I love the story behind this piece of engineering history. Francis' folly it wasn't! Goes to show that critics abound, but in time they will be set straight."
"Have been on the canal boat tours which takes you from Swamp Locks to the Merrimack River and back through the Francis Gate. If you haven't been on this tour recently, they have reworked the dam which is just up river of Mammoth Rd. Always wanted to see what the area looks like on land. It's a little oasis in the middle of the city. This Park adjoins with Sheehy Memorial Park. Definitely worth a walk over to see the lock if you happen to be at Sheehy Memorial Park. The park actually has land on both sides of the canal. Don't know why it doesn't show up on Google Maps."
