Reviews of Banyan Bar + Refuge
"Updated: 2nd visit It was a disappointing experience. We were excited about the new menu, thought it would be impressive like our first visit. There’s no big portion hot plates anymore , they replaced them with small, the same price dishes. Most of them are good to fine taste, but the soba noodles is more like a salad. One thing I can recommend is it is vg friendly. Overall, you paid a lot out of pocket for small meals. Too loud for date night and too expensive for partying with friends. Will not go back until they improve the menu again ———————- A beautiful place at a great location. The food is great and the cocktail is fantastic. The service is a little bit slow but we got everything we needed at least. The amount of food is not consistent tho, sometimes the bao is smaller than regular. A little bit overpriced like 2 small bao for 15 dollars. Overall it’s a nice place to hang out with friends"
"The food tasted great overall and there were a handful of vegan options to pick from, but many substitutions were not ideal/a surprise. For example, we were not informed that the vegan version of the cauliflower bao uses lettuce wraps, the vegan dan dan noodles just removes the protein with no alternative like tofu, and the vegan tuna crispy rice is just avocado crispy rice. Still the experience overall was positive as the ambiance was really nice and the taste of everything was great, just wish the menu was more clearly labeled or more thoughtful substitutes were available"
"Got their famous everything donut sandwich cause I just had to try it. Was salty but good. I would not get it again. The drinks were my fave and refreshing. I got the cucumber mint gin drink. Husband got the house made bloody. So good. The lobster buns were the best I’ve ever had. Loads of lobster and you get two. Ask them to heat the lobster because it comes cold."
"Fried chicken bao buns, lobster rangoon, and painkiller drink shown in the pictures. The painkiller was one of the best drinks I've ever had with spiced rum. I chose banyan bar for dinner before a show at BCA next door. The happy hour dumplings and spring rolls were delicious. We ordered a ton of food for 2 people but we were happy that we did. In addition to the food above, we also got the pork belly scallion pancake and smashed cucumbers. We didn't have room for dessert but I definitely would come back here if we are in the area again."
"Just had a phenomenal meal here with my family! We tried a ton of different dishes and I think we’d order almost everything again. The pork buns were great, the tuna crispy rice was great, the k-fries were probably our favorite appetizer, and I LOVED the short ribs. We also had great drinks (one of the best painkillers I’ve had!). Our server Ceili was super attentive and friendly, checking in on us to see if we needed anything and refilling our waters frequently. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend are the Brussels sprouts and I didn’t love the chocolate desserts."
