About the Goodrich memorial foot bridge
Welcome to the Goodrich Memorial Foot Bridge, a charming historical site nestled in the picturesque town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. This serene location serves as the trailhead to three scenic trails located on the south side of the Housatonic River, accessible by crossing the iconic Goodrich Memorial Foot Bridge.
The land, rich in history, was generously gifted to Laurel Hill by Mary Hopkins Goodrich and others on December 29, 1894, with the transfer confirmed by Arthur Goodrich through his guardian Martha Goodrich in early 1895. In 2015, the boundaries of this quaint park were officially delineated in agreement with the neighboring landowner, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
A fascinating feature of this site is its connection to the past transportation history of the area. The property is traversed by an abandoned right-of-way, once granted to the Berkshire Street Railway in 1902, and a right-of-way for a gas line granted to the Berkshire Gas Company in 1965. The trolley, which operated from 1902 until 1930, is a notable chapter in the area's history. Visitors can still see the old trolley bridge stone abutments to the left of the footbridge and on the opposite side of the river. The little building at the beginning of Park Street, which once served as the trolley ticket office, stands as a testament to this bygone era.
To visit, start at the iconic Red Lion Inn and head south on South Street/Route 7. Turn left onto Park Street at the Mobil Gas Station, and you'll find parking available at the cul-de-sac, just a short 3/10 mile from the inn.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, the Goodrich Memorial Foot Bridge offers a unique glimpse into the rich tapestry of Stockbridge's past, while providing access to beautiful trails and the tranquil beauty of the Housatonic River. Come and explore this hidden gem and enjoy a journey through time and nature.

Reviews of Goodrich memorial foot bridge
"Excellent little bridge and trail. We had a beautiful morning for a short stroll. I highly recommend this for a brief visit. We just did the easiest trail and we spent the better part of an hour strolling, stopping to listen to the stream, and looking for birds and squirrels. I would definitely go back if I was in the area again."
