About Us

Welcome to Naumkeag, a stunning museum, park, and tourist attraction nestled in the heart of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Located at 5 Prospect Hill Road, this exquisite 48-acre estate offers a glimpse into the grandeur of the Gilded Age, featuring breathtaking gardens and a rare Berkshire "cottage" that was once the summer retreat of the Choate family. Designed in 1884 by the renowned architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, Naumkeag is a remarkable example of shingle-style architecture with 44 rooms that served as a family home for several generations.
Visitors can explore the meticulously maintained landscapes, including 8 acres of formal gardens, meadows, and farmland, which provide a serene escape and a chance to step back in time. Please note that due to the estate's age and terrain, it is not wheelchair- or stroller-accessible.

"Beautiful place, but not a fan of all the hills and stairs to climb."
"I really enjoyed the house and its grounds. Everything is well-maintained. It was fascinating to walk through the house and see the historical interiors, stroll through the park, and learn about its history. I recommend arriving early, as the parking lot is small. You might have to wait in line for a spot to become available."
"Historic home and garden worth touring if you’re in the Berkshires. A small cafe on the side is great for taking a break and looking over the grounds."
"Went to visit for Mother's day Tea! Lovely grounds, features, service. A must for plant lovers, landscaping hints, relaxation and the pure joy of sitting on a unique bench enjoying the scenery."
"Went to see the Christmas lights and it was well worth it! The property is beautiful and the mansion is old time aesthetics decorated to the hilt. They had the shuttle busses well organized and everyone was having a blast. They also offered hot drinks and snacks for sale as you first get there (by the house). They were also piping holiday music throughout the property to add to the ambiance. The only thing missing was snow. Definitely go if you get the opportunity!"
