Reviews of Swan Oyster Depot
"I never got to try the food because they said they would come and get me since I was a single patron, but then never did even though I saw multiple single seats over the course of the 45+ minutes I waited. Better question is why is one of them wearing gloves while the other one isn’t? After all, they’re both handling your seafood."
"One of THE institution in SF and no trip is complete without a visit here. So old school and it does feel like you went back in time - just look at the cash register they are still using and i mean they don’t even have a website. No reservations, just stand in line and wait… and if you do, you will be rewarded with the freshest seafood around - oysters, cherry stone clams, scallops, shrimp cocktail, half crab and of course clam chowder. The list goes on, depending on what the seas bring in. Not much cooking needed and there’s no need to.. some olive oil, pepper, capers, lemon zest is all you need."
"Went here on a Wednesday morning around 930am. Please was almost busy, but no lines outside. Parking wasn't too difficult to find. There's only counter seating and you're immediately greeted by the employees there. Unfortunately, they didn't have crab back that morning, so I opted for a Shrimp Louie and their Carpaccio (which was a special). They recommended prawns instead of the shrimp, and I'm very glad they did. The prawns were insanely delicious with a hint of butter, very fresh and good size. The Louie itself was unimpressive since they only loaded it up with shredded lettuce and their homemade thousand island sauce. Usually there's hard boiled eggs, avocado and onions in it. The carpaccio (aka) Sicilian Sashimi was delicious! Topped with capers, salt, pepper the fishes were thinly slice and fresh! Overall, a great, legendary seafood spot. We were fortunate to get there when it wasn't terribly busy. The guys working there were positive and upbeat and helpful. Be papered to pay. $95 for the 2 plates, but definitely a good experience!"
"Swan oyster depot is fantastic! The fish is fresh everyday and the service is great. The seating is very limited to a counter bar style thus the reasoning for the perpetual line ups outside the premises. Crab usually runs out fairly early so if you arrive in line after 3 you probably will be out of luck. The inventory is promiminetly displayed in the front window so you can see what is available before hand. The best item to order off menu is the Sicilian Sashimi!!! They open at 8 a.m. so if you are visiting from the east the 8 a.m. start isn't to bad for lunch. Line ups usually start at 10 a.m. while waiting in-line, a block and a half up the street is Bob's Doughnuts which was also featured in Somebody Feed Phil."
