"Very unlike early days of Calvary Chapel (which welcomed everyone as depicted by Greg Laurie’s Movie, “Jesus Revolution”). I had been serving God at Calvary Chapel, Lihue, Kauai and reached out to Pastor Brian and his wife Joy at Shepherd's Heart Calvary Chapel in Cebu City before my visit. I have been on two previous mission trips, both in Luzon, where I saw over 400 people saved, 135 people baptized and just under 200 people added to the church (in six weeks time). This was the first time in Visayas. When I arrived, they took me down to the youth rally where they were playing games and ministering to the kids there. I met Pastor Brian and everything was great. I was talking to him about how I could evangelize in Cebu, invite people to church and possibly support them with worship, outdoor preaching, finances and evangelism… Suddenly Scott Lasch, an administrator from Downey, came over, kicked me out and said I was not welcome there because I was not part of the team from Downey! We were in public, so I didn’t defend myself, but the way he characterized me without even knowing my background and the help I had done planting Victory Christian Fellowship Churches in the past was amazing short-sighted. I had just watched “Jesus Revolution” (went to see it 3 times in the theaters and bought tickets for all my unsaved friends and was still reveling in the work of The Holy Spirit in the early days of Calvary Chapel with Chuck Smith!!! Anyway, I eventually found a church, have been reaching out with my wife with the youth in Northern Cebu and forgive that cold-hearted man who judged me without even knowing me. My wife and I just re-watched “Jesus Revolution” again last night — I told her, “This is what Calvary Chapel USED to be like..."
"They didn't let me in with my stroller and baby of 1 month, probably won't ever come back here again. So weird, like these big men approached me and demanded that I didn't go in there with my stroller...1st time by the nursery and the second time by the door to the far right, I've never had that happen to me in any church and with all respect i was NOT about to leave my 3 week old with stranger's in a nursery, Which sucked because it was my first service after not attending in over 1 year. Smh...I guess every church is diffrent, so I just removed myself and waited for my sister and aunt outside in my car."
"The church is large and impressive! The ladies' bathroom is very clean and nice. Although I'm not baptized here, I visit once in a while. I love the Christian Church and, of course, Calvary."
"Pastor Art had taken over for Pastor Jeff, and he teaches just like Pastor Jeff. Verse by verse through the Bible. A very friendly and diverse church. A little side note, you can't judge a book by its cover, and all churches aren't perfect."
