Originally a Project 641 (Foxtrot-class) diesel-electric attack submarine of the Soviet Navy, this formidable vessel was commissioned in 1971 and served with distinction in the Russian Pacific Fleet until 1994.
After its decommissioning, the B-427 embarked on a new journey as a museum ship. "Too bad, I had the opportunity to visit it in 2005 when the submarine had seen better days, it was in a good state of preservation. It's a shame that it's deteriorating, maybe reconditioning measures are taken to re-enter the tourist circuit..."
"Sadly, this submarine is dilapidated beyond repair, it seems. Can’t imagine what it would cost to dry dock it and attempt restoration. Seems like a lost cause. Again, that makes me sad because this could be a great complement next to the Queen Mary if it was restored, maintained, and made a museum of submarine warfare. Even if limited to the history of the Scorpion."
""I feel like I need a tetanus shot just from looking at it. The only thing holding her together, are the bird-droppings sir." The Soviet Foxtrot class submarine B-427 is a wonderful piece of history that is decaying away next to the Queen Mary. This sub is in desperate need of repair or disposal."
"Submarine is just sitting there. No way to board or look inside. Seems like it would make a nice addition to tours. The rust and marine growth is definitely taking a toll.."
