As a vital part of the community, our facility is dedicated to providing comprehensive forensic science services through our esteemed Forensic Science Services Division (FSSD). We specialize in the meticulous examination, analysis, and storage of critical evidence to support law enforcement and the justice system.

Our state-of-the-art Crime Laboratory is divided into specialized sections, each staffed by highly trained criminalists and forensic specialists. The Firearms Section offers expert analysis of firearms-related evidence, utilizing advanced technologies like the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) and BulletTrax to link crime scenes and firearms. Our team is equipped to conduct detailed investigations, including projectile path analysis and distance approximations, providing invaluable courtroom testimony and training for law enforcement.

The Controlled Substances Section, or Narcotics Section, is dedicated to identifying controlled substances in various forms. Our criminalists provide expert witness testimony and training on drug handling and presumptive testing, ensuring law enforcement officers are well-prepared in the field.

In the Blood Alcohol/Toxicology Section, we manage the evidentiary breath-testing program for Long Beach, analyzing blood and alcohol samples with precision using gas chromatography. Our experts provide crucial analysis and testimony on the effects of alcohol related to driving offenses, maintaining strict compliance with state regulations.

Our Latent Print Section excels in the detection and analysis of latent fingerprints, employing the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to aid in suspect identification. Our specialists are proficient in friction ridge detail analysis, offering expert witness testimony and collaborating with investigators to process crime scenes efficiently.
