"The jetties in Playa del Rey / Marina del Rey are very popular with birdwatchers and fishermen. There are also numerous bicycle riders, joggers, and hikers there. Some people walk their dogs on the jetties. The spring and fall birds' migration seasons are especially productive for seeing coastal and seabirds. The winter is also good to see the birds that usually breed in Alaska and Northern Canada, spending the cold season in Southern California. Over the years, I've seen dozens of different bird species on the jetties, including some that were banded in Alaska. As of right now (July 2024), there is plentiful parking available near the jetties. Including free and also paid. However, because this place is very popular with various groups of people, I would recommend getting there earlier in the morning. On Saturdays and Sundays, there are always more visitors there."
"Beautiful escape from the bustle of Los Angeles. Nice place for fishing or a walk. Good destination for a bike ride. Pick up some trash to throw away while you’re out there."
"Like having having a pier out over the ocean, notwithstanding the breakwater. It’s probably the best place to see the large watercraft of Marina Del Rey, as they’re coming and going! This favorite of mine stopover is always a welcome sight when bike riding along the long bike path. The paved trail appears to continue past the Ballona Creek Bridge and thru to the end of the jetty, tho haphazardly here as a pedestrian walking path, with included wooden decking along the way. This jetty is the more northerly of the two jetty’s at either side of Ballona Creek. This one also juts out along the larger Marina Del Rey Inlet. I’m usually parking at the nearby parking lots and heading on bike paths northbound, southbound, or inland and back. Upon returning, I like to go for a cooldown walk at the jetty for the ocean breeze and a panorama view back towards the land. Other visitors may be taking more time to relax, meditate, go fishing, have a seat and watch the boats of Marina Del Rey go by! The nearest public restrooms are along the bike path at Playa Del Rey’s Toes Beach, or at the Playa Del Rey Park, both within a few minutes walk away."
