"We highly recommend EKR Construction. EKR helped us remodel our parent’s former home. After our parent’s death, we decided to make the house a rental. This is our first rental. We are not seasoned real estate investors. This process was absolutely new to us. We wrote a scope of work with a general outline of what we wanted to have done. We spoke with at least six contractors. Most did not return phone calls until we followed up. After contact was made, we met each contractor at the house to discuss the project. If we received a quote, it had less detail than our primitive scope of work, and one lump sum dollar amount for the entire job. Our budget was adequate, but far from unlimited. We wanted to be able to pick and choose from different parts of the proposal to stay within budget. That was made impossible by the contractors. Our frustration level was very high and growing, until we met Keith Rakestraw of EKR Construction. Keith, the owner of EKR, met with us at the jobsite several times, over several months, BEFORE we signed a contract. (We were also still clearing out the house during this time.) Those meetings were spent discussing our goals and how to handle common issues in a house built in the 1950s. A few examples: -The interior walls were lath and plaster, and contained asbestos. Keith referred us to three companies that were qualified to remediate the asbestos. -The attic space is very small because the roof has a very shallow pitch. This impacted ducting for HVAC. Keith brought in his HVAC contractor to discuss how to install ducting with inadequate room in the attic. -We created a master suite by moving some plumbing, walls, and doors. Throughout this process, Keith was very patient and LISTENED to what we were saying. He answered any and all questions completely and clearly during these meetings. Keith offered suggestions and alternatives that saved money or provided a better solution for a specific part of the project. This allowed us to spend more in other areas. After those visits and discussions, Keith provided a contract that itemized each part of the project with a dollar amount for that part of the project, not one lump sum for the entire project as provided by the other contractors. Not only did this allow us to pick and choose the parts of the project that were most important to us, it provided a template for checking progress payments. When the contract was signed, Keith asked for a deposit of $1,000. All the other contractors had mentioned far larger deposits. Keith let us know that California state law sets $1,000 as the maximum allowable deposit for a project. This proved to us that Keith troubles himself to stay current on laws governing construction and that he is honest. With the contract in place and the deposit paid, EKR went to work. Progress was fast and work quality was very good. At key points, Keith asked us to walk the house to see and approve things like the number of electrical outlets and their placement before those items were actually installed. Progress payments were invoiced after we walked the house to see the completed work. Communication was open and frequent. If Keith didn’t answer immediately, he responded to our calls within an hour the vast, vast, majority of the time and within a day always. There were few delays, because Keith knows how to efficiently manage scheduling subcontractors, crew, and inspections with the permitting departments. We’ve begun interviewing property managers. Each and every property manager had nothing but praise for the quality of work. As always, do your own due diligence. But we believe you will be happy you chose EKR for your project."

They took genuine pride in their work. And at every turn, they showed that not just meeting, but exceeding, our expectations were foremost in their work. "Our neighbor recommended EKR as they had recently remodeled their kitchen. We are extremely pleased to have chosen EKR for our project. They constructed a complete remodel of our kitchen from the ground up, relocating our washer and dryer, installing new cabinets, replacing all the electrical , the floor, and the lighting. EKR installed all new appliances and made sure everything was working properly. Keith delivered everything he said he would. Our new kitchen was completed on time and at the cost he said it would be- there was never a surprise or unexpected expense we didn't discuss beforehand. Our house is 60 years old, and we knew the electrical system was less than efficient, so we called EKR a month later and they returned to completely rewire the entire house. Should I ever again need construction to be done in our house, I would call EKR without reservation. It was a pleasure working with Keith and his crew."
