"My wife and I interviewed many contractors before selecting Across the Pond Construction to do the remodel of our condominium in Pebble Beach. From day 1 Robert was prompt, thoughtful and did everything he could to make our experience positive. He is in business to make a profit though I never felt that was his motivation. He looked for ways to give us what we wanted without gauging us and looked for ways to reduce costs. He and his foreman Tom followed through on every punch list item and when it came time to dispose of items at the end of our job which were kept in our garage for staging purposes he came and helped me clean it out and took away the unwanted materials. "Extremely rude and dysfunctional. We reside in an oceanfront property with an astounding view in which we intend to remodel. We are in search of a safe, reliable, ethical contractor for our full remodel, which will be extensive and expensive. To meet our potential contractors, we decided to begin with some simple projects, to see if they are candidates for our future large project. Robert Darley made an appointment with me, and as a mother or newborn twins my time is critical. Last night, hours before we were to meet he calls and simply says he has more important clients to visit with, and is just too busy to consider me as a client. How spoiled and selfish does one need to be to refuse new business? He must not need anyone but himself in life, how sad. Phenomenally inconsiderate, and offensive to us, but then again - when you are new to our area it seems one would think word of mouth is not critical? He seems to be something other than a professional contractor, as if he moved here to meet the local ladies or ? As local girl, born and bred in Carmel and Pebble Beach, with a potential 4 million dollar remodel to consider, we fully intend to never forget my brief unprofessional encounter with this flakey ' new comer ' to our area and strongly advise everyone to not consider even a phone call for his services. We feel lucky we saw his true personality and the personality to his company through this experience, as we have dodged a bullet of future grief here. All the money in the world should not yield a person who cannot keep a simple commitment. Sad to feel so inspired to write this today, but took some time over this and still feel others should be spared from this experience.
