About the Business
Welcome to KAYMA Algerian Eatery
Nestled in the heart of San Francisco at 945 Market Street, Saluhall 2nd Floor, KAYMA Algerian Eatery invites you to experience the warmth and hospitality of Algeria right here in the Bay Area. Founded by Wafa and Mounir Bahloul, KAYMA brings the essence of Algerian cuisine—a delightful fusion of Mediterranean and North African flavors with Berber roots—to the vibrant community of San Francisco.
Our Story
Wafa and Mounir grew up in a lively family environment in Batna, Algeria, where sharing food, stories, and laughter was a cherished part of daily life. Inspired by their nomadic heritage, encapsulated in the Arabic word "Kayma," meaning a place that feels like home, they embarked on a journey to share their culinary traditions with the world. What began as a humble catering company has blossomed into a beloved kiosk at the La Cocina Municipal Marketplace, opened in Spring 2021.

"Flavorful, generous, nutritious food! Got the marinated chicken plate as recommended, and it was a very generous portion of not only well flavored spiced chicken but also well-seasoned couscous, super flavorful and olive oil-packed roasted bell peppers and chickpeas. Such a great deal for a large meal! Will be back to try more."
"Wonderful couple cooking deliciously distinctive Mediterranean Algerian food. They have many vegan options and their green tea with mint and pine nuts is so delicious! I had their lion name(on the secret menu) with couscous and other side dishes. The kale salad is great too!"
"Delicious food and super friendly service. The vegan bowl was amazing—such fresh and vibrant flavors! We liked it so much we finished it and went back for another one. (I’m not even vegan.)"
"I took my Algerian friend here for their birthday. I've never had Algerian food. It was incredible. Not only was the service amazing and coordinating what to eat, but the food was probably the best I've had in a while. It was flavorful but not overspiced. I like the traditional salads like eggplant and tomatoes and the olives. The couscous was so soft and had little bits of olive in it. We had the couscous with chicken and it was perfectly cooked! I wish I could've ordered a tray of it. My favorite was probably the lentil soup. The lentils still had a bite to them and the taste was subtle yet spiced perfectly. They served everything with a little bit of bread and harissa which allowed each of us to spice it how we saw fit. The food was not oily or overdone, it tasted like home cooked but was presented beautiful with a little flair. To drink we had this refreshing lemonade. And my favorite was this tea with pine nuts! We had dessert too, which was traditional. By then we were so full we only had a few bites of dessert but took it to go to finish. The owners were so accommodating and friendly. They helped me understand the cuisine better as well. I believe they cater and can't wait to have them cater at a party. The atmosphere is a lunch marketplace but there are private spots you can sit at. At first I didn't realize it wasn't a restaurant but the owners went above and beyond to make it feel special for a special occasion! I wish I lived closer because I would be eating there a lot."
"Beyond Amazing and Super Authentic! Very healthy Homemade Algerian Cuisine! The owner "Munir" is usually taking orders at the cashier and greeting people. He is very kind and welcoming. Also, the portions are super generous and 1 plate is typically enough for 2 people. Incredible food and amazing location inside the IKEA in San Francisco with Excellent vibes. Will go back there again and again to try everything on their menu, and the amazing homemade Algerian desserts."
