Reviews of Mount Tamalpais East Peak
"Some of the most majestic views north of the bay. The experience of going up to the parking area is fun as well, especially for kids (we did it by car). Be sure to bring water and supportive shoes. There are a few spots along the trail that deserve careful attention when navigating the rocks. The pitch of the trail is also significant, particularly at the start. The climb and views are both fantastic and worth it."
"A very beautiful lookout over the San Francisco Bay from the north. From the peak you can see all of Marin, Point Reyes to the north, and Oakland and San Francisco to the south. The hike up and down can be strenuous but it's worth it. I would not drive up, better to earn your views."
"Absolutely beautiful spot to have a panoramic view of the Bay Area. You can see the San Francisco peninsula, East Bay, the coast, and nearly every bridge from this lookout point. It is most definitely worth the drive up the mountain. The drive itself is also great for scenic pictures. It is a peaceful spot great for a picnic with the family, friends, or your significant other. Would highly recommend visiting at least once; local or not."
"Amazing views, history and great accessibility! Our first time visiting Mt. Tamalpais was a very misty/rainy afternoon. It was so much fun and wonder exploring the trails that we came back the next day to appreciate the beauty with clearer sky. The road up to the peak is fun, with plenty of pullouts and rest stops. Parking at the top is plentiful, though you’ll need to pay a park use fee, now simply done online. Totally worth it. This place is that good! The Verna Dunshee trail is paved and really easy for kids. It basically travels the perimeter of the peak, just about 1.0 mile. Enjoy the views, flora and fauna at each sign post. If you are feeling adventurous, just near the Gravity Car Barn is the trailhead to reach the Mt. Tam Fire Lookout. It starts out on flat wooden planks with a gradual incline, but then it’s entirely a rocky path. Wear shoes! At the top you’ll be rewarded with stunning 360 degree views. Highly recommend visiting!"
