"Cold, rugged, isolated, and beautiful. A nice destination in itself if you're in the area (it's a long drive from the nearest real town), otherwise more commonly used as a trailhead for Punta Gorda light and other Lost Coast trails. The road there (Lighthouse Road from Mattole Road) was badly potholed and almost covered with water the last time we were there, making it difficult to get to, but it's worth it…."

"We parked here for a few nights while we did a loop of the lost coast trail. Permits are $10 on recreation .gov and we wanted to avoid the $100 per person shuttle to drop us off at the opposite trailhead . We still saw a good majority of the trail . Beautiful beach! Can get windy !"
