"My experience with the Del Norte County Parks and Recreation Department was like something out of " The Twilight Zone ". You see I was hired by this Department........... Then fired.... At the end of my first day. I had been looking for work for a long, long time. The local economy in Crescent City at that time had been reduced to a slow crawl coming into the new post Covid, over automated social climate that seems to have darkened my doorstep. After seriously contemplating Foreclosure and eventual homelessness I received a call from a staffing agency known as the Del Norte County Smart Workforce Center informing me that there was an opening with the local Parks and Rec. Dept. There are no words for the level of relief and joy that came over me. Towards the end of the first day a supervisor led me away from the other crew men and women and said that we needed to take a ride back to the staffing agency to discuss something. There was no discussion. I was informed of my termination. They told me that I did not wear a hardhat correctly. That my laying in the grass on my break during a warm summer day was somehow inappropriate, and that I used the restroom immediately following a break. They did not bother to show me how to properly use any of the equipment, not the hardhat, or the blower backpack, or the weed trimmer. They did not communicate very well. What they did do well was humiliate! Waste their time and mine. They are a group of small town backward thinkers. They are part of the problem not the solution. So yeah, stop in and say hello to my friends over at Parks and Rec."
