"This is a fun place to visit for the day use areas, but I do not recommend camping here for a few reasons. For starts, the train zips by every hour and will scare you out of your sleep if you're not used to sleeping outside next to a train. Secondly, the camping spaces are tighter than a nun. Thirdly, for $45 a night after fees, it's not worth all of this. You're not able to hear the ocean, even in the dead of night when the train isn't passing by and the highway is quieter, although it's never completely quiet. This is a loud, cramped, tick infested place to camp. I'll just go back to staying in other places further north when I want a beach camping experience."
"Is this one of the most underrated state parks? Yes it is! Amazing cliffs and canyons to explore, great coastal hiking trails and very secluded, virtually alone and peaceful. So beautiful and the sunset is spectacular."
"Camp ground is only available for day use during the winter. Lots of parking but State Park day use fees in affect. Open 6 am to 10 pm. Bbq pits, picnic tables, clean restrooms w/outdoor showers. Lots of smooth road to bike ride. Freeway noise up top is loud but completely dies away once you head down the cliffs to the beach. Not much sand, just dirt and smooth rocks. Great surfing but not for swimming. Road down is about 1/2 mile with a medium grade. No fire pits or restrooms at beach level. Treasure hunting is poor; lots of buried trash."
"Clean, beautiful beach and not flooded with a lot of people. A hidden gem for sure. It was our first time visiting & we’ll definitely be back our next visit. Just follow the trails down, super easy to get to. Enjoy!"
"1979 - we stood here at San Onofre State Beach. The seaweed was huge and the sea was very refreshing"
