Sunset State Beach Campground

"The campground is filthy. Bathrooms were not clean, and they smelled terrible. Big pot holes on the surface roads. The bear food storage was broken and barely held up with one screw. And, tree limbs were in the campsite. We had to move them off to the side to park our trailer. We informed the ark Rangers and did nothing! Place could be beautiful if they would clean it up!!"

"A great spot for dry camping very close to the beach. Due to the proximity to the water the temperature is moderated by the sea. Quiet busy and crowded as it is a local favorite. Camping pads are on the dusty/grass mix. But expect a good amount of shade in all the spots. Bathroom facilities are decent with coin op showers."

"Drove a few hours to get here as it had great reviews and beautiful views. I was completely devastated when I saw the site as it was overgrown, poorly taken care of, disgusting bathrooms and had extremely unhelpful/unprofessional check in hosts. I had to leave to find another campsite up the highway. This should be a free campsite if they are going to care so little about it. My first huge disappointment with a CA state park. Go up north for your moneys worth."

"My husband and I spent 4 nights in the south campgrounds, staying in site #14. We were in our 26' RV so there was plenty of room in the driveway, it was also relatively level. Some site have quite a slope to them and would be really hard to level any kind of RV. The grounds were well kept, and the bathrooms were clean. It was a 1/4 mile walk to the beach, which was not bad at all. The beach was beautiful and was perfect for a long walk to bird watch and just enjoy the ocean waves. There are a couple vista points that you can walk to to watch the sunsets without having to go all the way down to the beach."

"This is definitely a campground for nature lovers and the perfect place if you're looking for a quiet campground. The campsites are very large compared to other state parks we've been to. The ground was sandy so it was easy to pitch our tent. Our campsite was #63 and if we come back to this campground we'll try to get the same spot. Some people complained that they didn't have an ocean view from the campsite, come on you can walk the short distance to the different viewpoints or even take your car and park down the hill close to the beach. The beach is beautiful and pretty empty right after Memorial Day weekend. Don't forget to bring quarters for the shower! The water was very warm. Be aware that the neighbor close by is a berry farm and it can be noisy in the morning when they start working. Overall it's a wonderful campground! Highly recommend staying there!"
