About the Kehoe Beach Trailhead
Welcome to Kehoe Beach Trailhead, a scenic gem nestled within the breathtaking Point Reyes National Seashore, located at Kehoe Beach Trail, Inverness, California 94937. This beautiful park offers a diverse shoreline stretching approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles), featuring both rocky tidepool areas and expansive sandy beaches perfect for leisurely walks.
Before planning your visit, we recommend checking our Current Conditions page for any potential closures or advisories. While the beaches are inviting, please be aware that not all are suitable for swimming or wading, particularly for young children, due to ocean temperatures dipping as low as 10°C (50°F) and potential hazards like hypothermia, sneaker waves, and rip currents.
We encourage all visitors to adhere to park regulations and the Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the natural beauty of the area. Please remember that glass containers are prohibited near water areas, and all natural and cultural resources, including shells, rocks, fossils, and artifacts, are protected by law. Respect wildlife by not feeding birds or approaching seals and sea lions, and note that drones and metal detectors are not allowed within the park.
Pets are welcome on specific sections of Kehoe, Limantour, and Point Reyes Beach, provided they are leashed at all times. For those interested in beach fires, fishing, or camping, please refer to our respective pages for detailed guidelines and permit information.
Our pristine beaches rank among California's cleanest, and we invite you to help maintain this status by properly disposing of trash and recycling. Join us in protecting our marine life and participate in the California Coastal Cleanup Day or contribute to daily beach cleanups during your visits.

Reviews of Kehoe Beach Trailhead
"This beach was really beautiful, nice dunes, cool cliffs. It's a great beach to go to enjoy watching the birds and waves. This is not a place to go if you want to be in the water...as the sign says "shark area and strong currents". There are bathrooms right at the entrance. You have to park on the roadside."
"A hidden (truly) gem & now my hope-to-keep secret heaven in Point Reyes! It’s a 100% natural, undeveloped, raw and wild beach by the gorgeously sapphire blue Pacific ocean. It got miles and miles of unpolished raw dunes by the beach, it got the finest sand. The cliff up on Tomales Trail is overlooking this hidden beach. The view is absolutely stunning! It’s very windy, it’s raw and got lots of signs warning don’t go do any kind of water activities; but this is why I love it: it got a great view, it’s not mean for water fun, but a place for you to see what a wild beach should be. And, you can take your dog for partial of the area here! Good luck finding parking though, only got few roadside spots."
"Lovely easy walk to a misty beach. Seems like a popular place for dogwalkers. Some street parking is available outside. Note that this beach is not safe for swimming, so please enjoy from a distance!"
"Man is this place beautiful. Best area of beach hiking so far. The trail is beautiful. We saw some wildflowers (lupines and California poppies.) We saw an eagle and a coyote and many birds. Then we arrived at the beach. It was so peaceful and calm and the air was pure. Bring a sweater if you do come even in summer!"
"Easy, relaxing trail which leads to clear beach. Dogs on leash welcome in most areas. Lots of areas to park."
