"Beautiful, quiet, serene RV campsite for one night. Nice to walk our dog on leash with the redwoods all around. No hookups, but loads of availability on a weekend in March. Token machine for showers wasn’t working, which was a bummer — just taking quarters would be a better system than tokens. Navigating the sites might be a little tight for larger rigs, ours was a compact 20’ rental."
"It's almost impossible to get summer camping spots here at Orchard Hill Loop campground. This site is farther away from Sir Francis Drake (than Creekside Loop), so it is away from traffic noise at night. The loop is a bit confusing to follow as it is on a one-way. If your site is near 30 or 29 (at the start of the loop), you need to drive all the way around the entire loop to exit the campground downhill to Cross Marin Trail. Last 2 years, we noticed non-camping type folks are coming here to camp and not following (or not knowing) the informal rule of being courteous campers to share the campground. These campsites are very close to each other at SPT and if you snore loudly at night, adjacent campers won't get any sleep at night. No firewoods for sale. Must bring in your own. There are several water spigot near campsites. Racoons and chipmunks are notorious here. You can't leave food unattended for 10 seconds. If you look away from your bag of food on the table or next to the tent, it will be quickly grabbed or rummaged through. Always lock food in a container with a latch or plan to lose them all. Too many to list the mistakes SPT’s inexperienced campers make. In 2022, the raccoon situation has gotten better at Orchard Hill Loop. No hammock is allowed as well as all other state parks in CA. The most campsites have 2-car parking spaces. If your vehicle is longer than 18', you must make a reservation that's designed for a trailer or camper vans. A very long trailer is difficult to drive through the circular narrow loop which is a one way road to travel."
"Great campsite in the hills behind San Francisco. Great for a weekend trip, as it’s only an hour away from the city. We stayed in the tent-only campsite, which was spacious. The campsites are relatively close together but there is a surprisingly amount of privacy due to them been tent-only."
"Upper Campground is called Orchard Hill loop inside the park. What a peaceful and gorgeous camp ground. Surrounded by redwood trees and shaded by the trees massive heights. Flush toilets and pay showers (bring quarters)."
"The campsite is nice and there is self-chek in for late arrival. There's lots of restroom and shower but they are not well maintained at all and it's 25 cent for 2,5 minutes of hot water. It's 35$ so it's not cheap.Campsite are nice and clean. There's a fire place and a picnic table for every site. When we arrived at 11pm there where a lot of reserved but unused campsite and we took the last unreserved one. The ranger should be checking for that."
