Reviews of Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center
"Surgeon was good keeping me posted during wife's surgery. Nurses on floor in Heart center are doing a good job taking care of her. Got here Friday morning, parked in The main parking lot. Went in main entrance and was told shuttle wasn't running l. Security guard said the only way to get there was go outside and walk all around the exterior of the bldg. I'm 63, grey hair asking for the heart center and I'm told to walk 1/2 mile in this heat????"
"My mom was admitted at Holmes Regional Medical Center a week ago. My biggest concern during her care was the lack of infection prevention opportunities I observed from the initial ED encounter all the way through her visit. In the ED, only 2 staff members washed their hands before coming in her room and after leaving. About 10 other staff members who came in her room, never thought to use hand hygiene before coming in, before touching my mom, before touching my mom's IV lines, and after leaving her room. Staff would walk out of her room with dirty gloves to grab something, and come back in her room and start to perform other task with no concern of hand hygiene or the infection risk they were about to put my mom in. When I asked them to please remove the current gloves and wash their hands before applying clean gloves, they looked at me like I was the worst and most ungrateful person in the world. However, even after I asked, they still would not do it again until I reminded them, which proves to me the continuous risk of infections they put patients in on a daily basis is a horrific problem there. When my mom got to her room, the same practice continued throughout her stay. I even saw staff members come out of isolation rooms with isolation gowns and gloves on to grab something and walk back into the patients room. I got the same, Huh? when I asked the staff to please wash their hands before coming into my mom's room or after touching the computer or other things in her room. I am really curious if they have an infection preventionist at this hospital. Curious if these individuals are aware of the staffs lack of consciousness and practices they have in spreading infections throughout the hospital. Most staff was friendly, but I had to give a 1 star because of the severity of the risk they are putting their patients in."
"Had surgery at Holmes on Monday. Staff was excellent!! I’m not sure where all these horrible reviews come from bc my experience was amazing. Hospital is clean and yes older but again it’s clean. Food was surprisingly good and they had many alternatives. I can’t say enough about all the nurses and care provided. Everyone we came in contact with was so friendly and helpful. Only suggestion is not having two patience in a room. Not enough room for the nurses to move equipment around and definitely not enough for a spouse to stay over. Great experience and again the staff is wonderful!!"
"If I could give them 0 stars I would. I came in the ER barely walking with horrible pain on the veins of my right foot. We were suspecting a blood clot. I sat in the ER for almost 5 hours. Several people who were in the waiting room left after 3 hours of no names being called. I stayed because I was scared it could develop into something serious. After seeing several people who arrived after me be treated I complained and they said it’s a case by case matter. The nurse decides my case isn't serious enough so everyone who walks in gets treated while I wait 5 hours. I can understand that for a couple hours, but 5 hours is absurd. if you tell me that more serious cases get treated first, that means I am going to be sitting there forever because people walk in 24 hours a day! All the people who left, including myself, went home risking getting worst and even dying. Over 10 people left the hospital today without being treated."
"Unfortunately 3 of my family members have had to be taken care of here in the last 3 weeks. I used to trust the care at Holmes. I gave birth to my son here in 2021 and I was born here in 1989. I have seen a decline in their care of their facilities and patients over the last few weeks. My grandmother is being moved to ICU and in the family waiting room on the 7th floor this is the ceiling. This didn’t happen in a day. If this is how they care for their facilities… imagine how they care for their patients. I work for a nationwide Healthcare system and this would immediately be called in for repair. They also had the air unit go out in my grandmothers room. She was sweating!!!! And in A-fib! And didn’t move her room. Unacceptable. There is absolutely no way this hospital is accredited. Because if they were…. Im sure it would be an automatic failure."
