"Looks like most of the reviews are members reviewing their own congregation, so....? Surprise! Five stars. I'm reviewing the school. OSLS was not our first choice - my daughter's school was closed on short notice and we needed to find her a seat over the summer. So while we looked at other schools in the area, our search wasn't extensive. That being said, we weren't unhappy with the choice. At first. The elementary school was adequate and some of the teachers were truly engaged. Some, not all. Her education wasn't anything better than she would have received in a public school - and sometimes not as good - but because we were supplementing with family members who were teachers (post grad degrees) we were willing to continue. The Middle School however, even though it's right there on the property, was like an entirely different institution. There were three teachers at the time, and none of them were what we hoped for. The liberal arts and science teachers, both women, were, in our opinion, not transparent, not honest, and encouraged division amongst the students (think mean girls, but teachers). But it was the math teacher that ended it for us. In our opinion, he should never have been allowed in a room, unsupervised, with children. Our opinion was that he relied upon his substantial physical presence to intimidate students, resorted to displays of aggression to enforce discipline, was not fluent in basic skills for a classroom teacher (such as writing detailed lesson plans) , and, much like the female teachers, participated in encouraging a social hierarchy among the students. We almost immediately came to believe that the school needed a coach and so made him the math teacher. We didn't last a full year in middle school before we moved to a public school, where we realized just how pedestrian an education our daughter had received... for a tidy sum. We left without receiving a refund. In fact, during what turned out to be our exit interview, the no refund policy appeared to be the principal's singular thought - rather than speaking to a report that his math teacher threw books across the room to get children's attention, he focused on making it clear that our year's advance payment was not refundable. We had to wonder if the same math teacher had bullied him into submission, too. Well after we left, one of the women teachers sent us a packet of our daughter's work , with what, on the surface, might be interpreted as a note of genuine concern...'in case she needed it in the future.' Comically, this was work which the same teacher had told us our daughter never handed in... and failed her for. Like I said, not transparent. Sadly, several years later we met a neighbor whose daughter had the exact same experience with the same math teacher. So nothing had changed. Looking at it from a consumer's standpoint, we found very little value for the money and if we had it to do over, we'd have preferred public school or to have spent our money elsewhere."

"I was baptized and married in this church, my daughter was baptized here now. This church has been a part of our family for years. A beautiful church, contemporary service and band are amazing and the pastors are inspiring! Great place to worship!"

"We stopped in for the 8am traditional service while on vacation visiting grandparents. We were greeted at the parking lot and inside the church. People are friendly and they help you follow along. The sermon was very engaging with TV screens to emphasize points. This is a Bible-based church that preaches the gospel. We felt challenged and encouraged to be better Christians. We will come back to OSL the next time we're in St. Pete's."
