CubeSmart Self Storage

"While the staff are friendly and attentive, the fact that the company itself raises the price of their units EVERY six months or so is absolutely greed driven and unacceptable. People are struggling in our community right now and for CubeSmart have them increase their rates they way they do puts many already struggling families in a financial crisis to simply keep their important items stored that they cannot keep in their own homes for whatever reason. Several of our community members have rented from them and stated that their bills went from a reasonable rate to an excessive one over time. One board member of our association started at $150 a month for a 10x20 two years ago. However, with the every six month rate hike, has had to clear out their unit this month as the monthly fee is now nearly $500. When asked about this purely greed driven regular inflation, the answer was “it’s industry standard”. However, having looked into other local facilities that have similar amenities, the standard is a yearly increase, NOT a bi-yearly increase. The facility security at our local CubeSmart has also decreased as they lost their main gate into the facility parking lot a few months ago from someone running into it, and it has not been replaced as of yet. Our board member also reported that when they were clearing out the last of their items this week, the doors leading into the actual building were stuck open, when it usually has a passcode to gain access. This caused the building’s first floor units to remain unsecured, and anyone could have driven into the parking lot then entered into the first floor of the building. If this location is a planned short term rental, then it isn’t a bad choice, as it is climate controlled (as long as the building doors are shut) and typically they have decent protection protocols (if the security gate is in place and the doors to facility can only be opened by passcode and aren’t locked open). This review is to help the community of Holiday Lake Estates remain informed as they are one of the closest storage facilities to our community. Hopefully this review will help prevent any community members from having to endure what our board member just did, and also give the surrounding communities a bit of insight as well. If CubeSmart discontinues their bi-yearly inflationary payment cycle's that make their customers pay more than some do for a house payment in this state, and if they get their security measures back up to a base minimum standard for what they promise to provide, then this review will be updated to reflect as such. Until then, be aware and be prepared to have your bill increase twice a year, and that currently the facility does not protect your items as well as a business that makes excessive earnings from their customers should."

"The facility is clean and the security is great. Staff is great also. My only issue is that the rent continuously goes up. When I left I was paying almost $100 more than I was paying when I originally signed up and I was only there for 1 1/2 years. So be prepared for regular rate increases. Otherwise, it's a great facility."
