"When I arrived December 28, 2019, I truly didn't think I had anything left to fight this disease with any more. While I had enormous successes in long stretches of recovery, I would eventually relapse and lose everything, and more. This last time I didn't want to fight anymore; I couldn't live with or without drugs or alcohol, and tried very hard to kill myself. Arriving at Pavillon, not only was I very discouraged about another attempt at recovery, I still wasn't sure if I wanted to live. The education I received was exceptional, and relieved decades of guilt and shame. The counseling was unlike any I'd had before and helped me change thinking patterns that were so unhealthy. Then when I left and was met with repeated challenges in recovery, I remembered they offered a Relapse Prevention Track and would call and email to see if the COVID restrictions were lifted yet. With each family member who died or other extreme life stressor, while they sadly said no for 4 years, they still offered me love, hope, and support. Then 3 weeks ago with stresses unlike I'd ever faced in my entire life, I felt using wasn't an option but having a nervous breakdown was, they said yes, I could finally come back. They asked which counselors I'd like to work with and lined them up; then made more available when I got there. Everyone welcomed me joyously with open arms. They helped me work HARD on my pain, grief, loss, trauma, fear, and more.... and the week was transformational. My husband feels like he has his wife back. My family and friends are amazed. So am I. I had forgotten they offer alumni to return periodically, for FREE, for the rest of our lives. I plan on doing just that, because one of the gifts they taught me is that self care is not selfish."
