NCH Pediatric Emergency Department

"Brought my son to the Pediatric on 5/22 around 730 pm. Had one of the worst experiences in this facility. Not sure what happened as in the past I have brought my children there but after this experience it gives me definite pause. To make a long story short, we were brought to a private room waiting to be seen by a doctor. My son and I left after waiting over an hour and a half. Not even as much as a nurse came into the room to check in on my son who came in for a very bad cough and asthma/breathing issues. None of the staff even looked like they cared. I picked up my son and we made our way out. During this process a nurse turned to another younger male nurse and asked “didn't you go into this room?” The young male blatantly lied right in front of my face and said that he had gone into the room to check on my son. I was clearly very upset as this young male nurse looked like he was attempting to cover his a@“. The demeanor of the nurse and doctor who was present looked like they could not be bothered with my 3 year old and I. Very disappointing to say the least. Tried not to take it personally. I found it deplorable that a kid would be brought into a room and not even a nurse comes in to check vitals or check on the status of my son. The nurses and doctor were going into other rooms treating children and don’t understand how a child could be neglected for more than 90 minutes. Shame on you as medical professionals with your flippant attitude and lack of empathy/sympathy. My son and I left and we ended up in another ER whom immediately treated my son. If anyone from NCH pediatric admin is reading this I would be more than happy to speak to you about my experience. It’s obvious this is a potential liability issue and someone from the department should be disciplined. Respectfully, Upset father!"

"We brought our 3 month old in to be examined after an accident. There we two staff members who checked us in, one was on her phone the entire time. The doctor did a brief exam on our child, gave her a diagnosis of torticollis, and sent us on our way. They recommended we give Tylenol every four hours for pain management. Fortunately, I scheduled a follow up appointment with her pediatrician and she was alarmed they didn’t do an x-ray. It turns out our baby fractured her collarbone! The unprofessionalism I could let slide, but feel other parents deserve to know about the lack of thorough care our baby received."

"The communication is so poor. They will let you ache in pain. The nurses don’t care much. They spend much of the time goofing off (talking about ER!) and chatting. Can hardly be bothered to update you or listen to you. The doctors are caring and helpful….when they come around."

"They nurses have no sympathy for patients that are in pain on top of being rude when they took her information and standard vitals in the lobby there’s no working water fountain the only person that was helpful and kind was the doctor I expect a lot better staff but it seems they just want to sit around and not help the two times I was here in one day for my mother. The only person who was of help was doctor matry and this nurse Daniel other than that the rest of the staff was inconsiderate"

"NCH Birthplace is not that good how NCH ER is bad! So they definitely deserve 5 stars if the NCH ER gets one star (which is way too high for them). My wife had an amazing treatment here, for 4 days. Doctors and nurses are fantastic! Caring and understanding. Keep doing what you do!"
