"Disappointingly, the only remaining site on public land is the Bickel temple mound. Looking at the posted maps, everything else has either been built over or closed off by private properties. Nonetheless, a neat site— consider bring good running shoes and bear spray, encountered a hip-height boar while at the mound top about 20 feet away."
"If you're in the area, you might as well stop by, but don't go super out of your way for it. It's an interesting site with a cool historical background, but there's not much to actually see there. Imagine a hill in your neighborhood has been fenced off with a sign that says it has some historical significance. That's basically the gist of the experience. Now the big UNLESS. If you have an interest in Native American history or archeology, you may find it significant to be there in person. However, the signage (which other reviewers have posted photos of) is not very informational or robust. So you won't really learn much through your visit. In other words, you would likely learn more in a book or a good YouTube video than actually visiting. There were about 3 signs and a little stairway to the top of the mound. Be prepared with bug spray or some sort of bug repellent. I've lived in Florida my entire life and I've never seen so many mosquitoes on one person (like easily 200 of them covering my husband's back). I know this sounds hyper-negative, but I am almost always the person that wants to visit things that other people consider a waste of time, and my honest opinion is that this is only worth the time if visiting Native American or archeological sites is of significant interest to you. And if it is, by all means, go. If not, you will be disappointed."
"It was disappointing. Hernando De Soto the Spanish conquistador in 1839 was supposed to have visited the Indian village and met with the Chief Ucita. Speculation? You follow the trail and steps to the top and you are on exactly what they described, a non-descript mound. If you visit, read the interesting posting on the signs. Walking the trail and the steps is a disappointment. There IA a De Soto site or park in Bradenton this is a government park and is very informative and has a movie and interesting story of his disastrous trip throughout the south. It is worth the extra trip!"
"Stoped by early June in the morning. It was empty, spiritual place thinking it goes back over 2000 years. Small park, few parking. The drive was so beautiful by the bay. It is an easy walk up the steps to the flat-topped ceremonial mound. MUST bring bug spray. Picnic table is available."
"Small beautiful and very good maintained park. It is small and quiet area. It has one picnic table and beautiful stairs to walk. Great place to spend some times with family."
