"Recently had Klaus’ shop, Top Classic Cars replace the convertible top on my 2002 SL500 R129; Klaus suggested a change of color from black to light-grey to give the car a fresh look, and he was right. The light grey was perfect! However, the installation was horrible. The top would not lay flush to the body at the rear of the car— I was told by Klaus’ installer the top would eventually settle down to become flush with the body on its own—several months later it did not. I thought this issue might be resolved with a minor adjustment —so I took the car to a local (Lakeland, FL) auto upholstery shop (versus driving back to Ft Myers). The local shop technicians examined the top and immediately observed that the top was cut too short during the installation on one side. Decided to check with another auto upholstery shop— upon inspection they said the same thing and further pointed out that the top was not centered properly as determined by the rear window opening position. Went to a 3rd shop—the exact same observation and physically pointed out that the side cable was installed improperly. Needless to say: BUYER BEWARE! The top will have to be replaced and will be installed by a REPUTABLE upholstery shop."
