"Great spot to explore"
"6 stars if possible."
"Born and raised in a largely non-industrial state (Florida) I have long been a fan of New York's industrious past. The Erie Canal holds a special place in my love of history, spanning a period from largely frontier, agrarian life to the state's early industrialization to its far uglier decline. I've now lived in New York state, including several years in Syracuse and now two decades in NYC for as long as I did in Florida. This place is a capsule of the canal's history and its ongoing use. I loved seeing a mix of pleasure boats and working tug and barge go by while standing along Seeley Street at Benton Landing. On the Mohawk River side you see the old warehouses and what I assume was/is a power or pump station, along with the rapids and, as I said, traffic along the canal. You also get a good look at the cliff face where the canal had been cut/or blown into existence. Amazing to consider the endeavor occurring to consider the effort required in the early 1800s to build it."
