"Hi there! New resident in the area, just moved a week ago. I want to throw out there that I am also disabled, so I spent a lot of energy coming here, I have chronic and diagnosed hip and back pain.I literally JUST entered this laundromat today, and I was watched very hard by a middle aged Hispanic woman with shoulder length black hair and black eyebrows. I didn’t know who was an employee because at the time of entering the establishment, NO ONE WAS BEHIND THE DESK OF CONDUCTING BUSINESS, so I looked around for an ATM, finally found it and retrieved $10 out to do my laundry. I realized $10 was too large of a bill because I only had one load of laundry. I proceeded to ask the lady who had finally assumed the position behind the counter if she would be able to change my $10 bill for something smaller. She first responded “no”, which I found strange because every laundromat I entered in my lifetime, the owner or employee on shift always has singles for that reason, readily available. She then switched her answer five seconds later and said “yes”, weird right? She hands me the correct amount of change, and I then proceed to get quarters from the establishments machine SO I CAN DO LAUNDRY! Isn’t that what that machine is for? To exchange dollars for quarters so that customers can insert the quarters inside the machines for proper use? I thought that’s how business transactions worked at laundromats. There I am standing with my laundry bag slung across my back at the quarter exchange machine, the same lady approaches me from behind and tells me this machine can only be used by customers… so I paused and kindly asked “why would you think I wouldn’t be washing my clothes here?”, the lady looks me up and down and proceeded to say “oh you’re a customer? It’s okay.” At this point I wanted to know why she thought I wouldn’t be a customer, I’ve never done anything shady within my 3 minutes in her establishment. She literally could see my laundry bag hanging from my back, but she intended on making me feel like I was being watched? I felt so mistreated, that I proceeded to walk out right after me standing there frozen for 10 seconds out of utter disbelief. I walked out the door and said “no thank you, I’m good, have a great day”, still displaying kindness because I will not let this lady force me to become someone who I am not! I TRULY BELIEVE SHE DID THIS BECAUSE I WAS A YOUNG BLACK MAN! Racism at its finest. SHE TREATS PEOPLE IN HER OWN COMMUNITY LIKE GARBAGE. It’s clear that this woman with short length black hair and dark painted black eyebrows had PROFILED ME as soon as I walked in her establishment. She could’ve had a continuous customer, like I said I just moved a week ago RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. I’m so offended and I have never been treated this way in my entire lifetime at a community laundromat. I FELT SO OFFENDED, THAT I PROCEEDED TO ORDER MY OWN WASHING MACHINE OFF OF AMAZON. I will never let someone disrespect me the way this lady has. I wasted my time and energy walking there with my laundry thinking that I would be treated with respect just like any other customer. I pray she never treated anyone else the way she treated me there! And what’s worse is, my hips and back are now in pain from wasting my time walking there. I suggest that people order their own machine or find another closer laundromat in your area. This one doesn’t seem to respect black men of color. What a sad world we live in."
