About the Business
Welcome to the First Congregational Church of Riverhead, a vibrant and welcoming place of worship located at 103 1st Street, Riverhead, New York. As a cornerstone of the community, our church is dedicated to spiritual growth, community service, and fostering a sense of belonging for all who enter our doors.
Our Bread and More Soup Kitchen continues to be a beacon of hope, offering free to-go meals every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30 to 6:15 PM. We believe in the power of service and community support, which is why we are also collecting school supplies through the last Sunday of August. Donations can be dropped off at the church office, our Thrift Shop, or in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. Monetary donations are also welcome, and our dedicated volunteers are ready to do the shopping on your behalf.
The Alley Cat Thrift Shop, an integral part of our community outreach, is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, and Saturdays from 9 AM. We accept donations only during these hours and always appreciate the help of volunteers.
Please note that there will be no Sunday School during the summer; however, classes will resume on September 8, 2024. For more information, feel free to contact our church office.
Join us for worship services, including the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost Service on August 18, 2024, at 10 AM. Experience our rich tradition of music, prayer, and reflection, starting with a prelude of "Blessed Assurance" by Knapp. Our services are designed to inspire and uplift, with hymns such as "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" and thoughtful sermons that delve into the wisdom of scripture.
We invite you to be part of our beloved community, where faith, hope, and love guide us in all we do. Whether you are seeking spiritual nourishment, community connection, or a place to serve, the First Congregational Church of Riverhead welcomes you with open arms.

"I’m not a member of this denomination but I am aware of their programs for those in need of clothes and household items. Also they do help also with a food program."
"Sermon incorporates excellent biblical scholarship and delivery. Warm, friendly congregation. Community outreach programs include AA, meal support and others. Active thrift store open 3 days a week."
"I am one of the people who prepares meals at the soup kitchen in this church. Giving back is what our lives should be about. I work with the nicest most caring people. The people we feed are our guest. Good feelings for all."
"I first attended in 1992 when Pastor Donna Schaper was at the helm. We were very involved in the community including helping at the soup kitchen. My specialty was chili, Italian-style. Ed Tuccio was supportive of the work we were doing which led to Vision 2020; what could Riverhead become (now a year away)? Downtown Riverhead was becoming a ghost town with high crime. We thought we could revitalize this part of town with a new dock on the river, better lighting to walk the sidewalks at night without fear of being mugged. We wanted restaurants on the river. When Swezeys Department Store left there was a decline that needed to be corrected. All of the revitalization efforts were spearheaded when the business community joined hands with Donna, Ed Tuccio, and those of us on the Board who shared this vision. The big challenge today is reaching out to the community who go to Tanger Outlets instead of honoring God on Sundays. This is a fine opportunity for First Congregational to increase their outreach beyond the thrift store and soup kitchen. I am glad they did not close up shop like so many downtown churches all around our country."
"Open and affirming community. Family and child centered. Lots of long-term faith and wisdom. Pastor is very engaging, funny and great with the kids. This is a sane, supportive , intelligent place to worship and serve Christ, lots of outreach, soup kitchen, thrift shop"
