Please note that swimming is prohibited, as there are no lifeguards on duty. For your convenience, Fort Tilden is accessible via public transportation. Take the #2 train (or #5 during rush hour) to Flatbush/Nostrand Avenue and transfer to the Q35 bus, selecting either the Fort Tilden or Jacob Riis stop after the bridge. During the off-season, both the Q22 and Q35 buses stop at Beach 149th Street, while between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, they will bring you directly into Jacob Riis Park. Alternatively, take the Q21 or Q53 to Beach 116th Street, then transfer to the Q22 or Q35 to reach the park.

"Would be better if they had a couple of telescopes, so you can get an idea of what it was like. But I do understand why it isn't any. Some of NJ coast can be seen on most days. And you can also see to the right of the point the old parachute jump in Coney Island."

"Tallest lookout around - climb up to the top for a great all-around view. I stopped here on a bike ride on the tours around Fort Tilden and was so glad I did! Lots of graffiti on the former military structure, but the stairs are in good shape and it's worth the steps."
