Coney Island History Project
About the Business
Welcome to the Coney Island History Project, a captivating tourist attraction located at 3059 West 12th Street, right next to the West 12th Street entrance to Deno's Wonder Wheel Park in Brooklyn, New York. As we approach our 20th anniversary in 2024, we invite you to explore the vibrant history of Coney Island, free of charge, from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Our exhibition center is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Dive into the rich tapestry of Coney Island's past through our engaging exhibits, which celebrate the inventors, performers, impresarios, and community leaders who have shaped this iconic destination over the past century. Each year, the Coney Island Hall of Fame honors these pioneers with a stunning display of colorful banners and illustrated text panels that bring their stories to life.
Don't miss our featured video, "Memories of Coney Island's Mermaid Avenue in the 1950s," available on our YouTube channel. This nostalgic piece, created by Charles Denson, combines historical photos from our collection with the voices of locals Michael "Looch" Goldstein and Stanley Fox, who share their cherished memories of growing up on Mermaid Avenue.
Discover the fascinating history of attractions like the El Dorado Carousel, a masterpiece carved by Hugo Hasse in 1902, which found its way to Coney Island in 1910 and survived the 1911 Dreamland Fire. Join us in celebrating the legacy and enduring spirit of Coney Island at the Coney Island History Project. We look forward to welcoming you this season!
