"If you're visiting New York during the holidays, a must-see neighborhood in Brooklyn is Dyker Heights in West Brooklyn. It is traditionally an Italian neighborhood famous for its Christmas decorations on million-dollar mansions. You will be amazed by all the lights and you will think you are in a Christmas movie. The spectacle on 84th, 85th and 11th avenues attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world, while the decorations are no longer made by the residents themselves but by professionals. Between 17.00-21.00 is the best time to walk the streets of the neighborhood, while on the weekends when New Yorkers are at home, Dyker Heights is even brighter. To get there you will need to take the yellow line (Q, R) from Times Square and it will take 75 minutes. Alternatively with organized visits from Broadway Avenue with a cost of $55 per person with return."
"This was such an absolutely delightful Christmas experience! It’s perfect for kids and adults alike. We walked it by foot rather than doing a tour and I loved that — you can stroll down whatever streets you’d like. It was the epitome of Christmas magic! Protip: buy hot chocolate from a local (a house with a table serving hot chocolate and goodies) versus a food truck. Our food truck hot chocolate was beyond subpar."
"It was a nice experience. There are so many lights, and some homeowners were really creative. I really loved the house with the green lights that bring awareness to DMS. I would recommend not going the weekend before Christmas. And you can definitely do this tour on your own. If you're driving, be sure to park on outskirts of the dyker heights tour because traffic is horrible once you get in thr main streets."
"Amazing neighbourhood to visit during Christmas. All the houses are beautifully decorated and 99% of the families are welcoming while few are indifferent and do not permit parking on the curb side in front of their home. Thousands of New Yorkers visit this place everyday during Christmas holidays and parking is a big problem. Better if you park your car few streets away and walk to the place. Plan for 1.30 hrs to 2 hrs to see around and click some pics."
"Went to see Christmas lights on a Saturday night and it was amazing! We only budgeted 2 hours for this and it wasn't enough. Next time we plan to save 3 to 4 hours. (If your walking through) It is pretty far from Manhattan, so going here and Manhattan in the same night is a bad idea. It took about 90 minutes each way! Some of the best Christmas lights we have ever seen were in this neighborhood. Can't wait to go back and find all the ones we missed!"
