"Today January 17th 2024. This was my first time coming to Our Lady of Refuge Church because I need food & their food pantry gives out food on Wednesday's from 10 am - 1 pm. today it's frigid & the temperature is in the single digits which makes it dangerously cold outside. I stood online outside of Our Lady of Refuge church from 9:30 am, when my Access A ride dropped me off, until 10:50 am & they just started distributing the food at 10:40 am. My Access a ride came to pick me up at 10:50 am because I had an 11:15 am pick up to return home. I stood outside for so long, my fingers & toes froze & i started feeling the effect of frost bite in my fingers & toes which were burning. When my Access a ride came at 10:50, I hurry up and got on in the AAR so I can thaw. I had difficulty clibing the stairs to get into the bus because of my frozen hands & feet. I have never seen such a cruel way of distribute food from a food pantry. The driver was sweet enough to let me sit on the bus & thaw for 10 minutes before she took me back home empty handed because I became frost biten standing in that dangerous cold weather only because I need food. Our Lady of Refuger needs to organize their food pantry distribution better than this. SMH"
"Very welcoming and friendly for an out of town mass goer. Great mix of immigrant and native communities."
"The church is beautiful its a staple for me because I went to the OLR school, attend church and live in the area! however the resident priest has a heavy accent and with a parish of people from other countries I find it hard to believe one can grasp all that is trying to be conveyed from the sermon. Also there are parishhelpers that assist throughout the mass that are very dismissive like they hold a Holy title and never welcoming! I gave the church 5 stars for sentimental reasons however if I were to rate this church for hospitality it would be a ONE and thats coming from someone being a part of the church for 25yrs and still can feel like a stranger."
"On the outside, one cannot tell the beauty of the church. Nonetheless, when you enter inside, there's such a rich ensemble of architecture, of liturgical statues that it worth walking around to take in such view. The altar is magnificent as well. I have not been inside that church for many years. I had no recollection of it whatsoever but I was moved while being on there."
"Very welcoming church, priest and congregation. Everyone is very peaceful and serene, including the environment itself. Come as you are, no one stares and judges you. Great place to pray and remain lowkey and focused, especially if you just need that alone time with the Lord. The setting is just amazing. Not too rowdy and loud just a calm place to worship your Lord and savior without feeling like you don't belong. They offer confessionals and they have church events and youth/adult groups, movie nights etc. you can find out more about that when you attend. They also sing happy birthday to you, wish happy anniversaries and welcome back visitors if you fall under any of those, at the closing of the mass. Hope this was helpful!"
