Reviews of Central Islamic Center of New York
"Asalamwalikum, what a great environment. My son goes to the madrassa classes on sunday at this center, and I am very pleased. the organization and teaching are great, highly recommended as your kids will acquire islamic teaching and values Jasakallah to the teacher, Imaam/ustad Ibrahim, sister Faneza, and brother Safraz."
"I'm sorry to say, this is the worst masjid I've been to. Whoever was the imaam today (April 4th) was very terrible and in no way represents Islam! He should be removed from this post. A brother walked in late and took iftaar from the table, something frowned upon it seems. The imaam proceeded to call him out on the mic, embarrassing this man. We do not know people situation; at least this brother is making an effort to attend masjid. Instead, the imaam began screaming, told everyone who spoke up to shut up, and proceeded to tell the brother he can get out, leave, and never come back. SubhanAllah what times we live in where a leader of a masjid is so disgusting. I am embarrassed this is the Islam we have. An imaam who led salah, read quran, and made dua spoke so rude to someone in a masjid and in front of children as well! As Muslims we are taught to have patience, excuse on and other, and spread kindness. Very upsetting to see this is what is happening in a masjid."
"I was taught growing up if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. I’ve been going to this Masjid for awhile and I’ve noticed the gentleman who always fills in for imam carries a very harsh tone. I’m sure he is one of the co founder of this masjid. So, as a leader you must carry yourself in a way when people hear you talk, simply just say “wow! I love this man.” I will tell you what made me write this review. A gentleman last week asked for duah for deceased family member. Today, the gentleman who was presenting khutbah instead of teaching us something valuable from the Quran he pretty much said, not to pass any papers with person’s name on and ask for duah. He said, “ I don’t know that person, you do. You should be making duah.” My mind was blown! I was saying to myself, is he for real? So all, those people who are dying around the world from earthquakes and wars, I shouldn’t pray for their safety? As a leader you should be respected and that can only be earned through love and continuously educating the youths. Even if you feel like you are not getting through. The idea is never give up. Every day I wake up I say to myself how can I be better than yesterday. I have tons of flaws but I’m trying to be better each day. Even as I write this I feel as if I did you wrong. However, someone has to say something. This has been going for awhile. I am nobody important but I will not be coming back to your masjid. I just hope this helps change the culture you portraying. A true leader should be loved and respected. Someone who rules by fear is not a leader."
