"This is basically the Bowling Green Park and the area immediately above it where the Charging Bull statue is. During the American Revolution, the British captured New York City pretty quickly and it was occupied by them for the entire seven years or so of the war. Evacuation Day is the day that the British left, November 25, 1783. It was celebrated every year for quite a while, but Thanksgiving eventually became a more popular holiday."
