Visit the Historic Old City Hall Station: A Hidden Gem of New York City's Subway History
Discover the enchanting beauty of New York City's first subway station at the Old City Hall Station, located in the heart of Manhattan. With exclusive access through the New York Transit Museum, embark on a captivating journey through time as you explore the elegant chandeliers, leaded skylights, and the exquisite vaulted tile ceilings crafted by master artisan Rafael Guastavino. Designed by renowned architects George Heins & Christopher LaFarge, this decommissioned station is a testament to early 20th-century architectural brilliance.
Begin your 90-minute tour above ground, delving into the fascinating history of Alfred Beach’s Pneumatic Tube and the evolution of City Hall and the subway system. Then, venture underground to witness the graceful curves and timeless elegance of this historic landmark. Although the track remains active as a turnaround for the 6 line, trains no longer stop here, making this exclusive guided tour a unique opportunity for New York Transit Museum members.
Please note that to secure your spot, complete both registration steps; otherwise, your ticket cost will be converted into a tax-deductible donation to support the New York Transit Museum. "The great place to visit everything is nice"
"An amazing place and experience. This was the original "jewel" of the NYC subway system when it opened in 1904. It is only accessible via tour as a member of the New York City Transit Museum. You can also glimpse it by staying on the 6 train south bound from the City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge station since it uses the old City Hall station to loop back around to continue on the northbound side."
