"Got there during a down time so I was the only visitor. Manager was out sick so I got a personal tour from Joseph, the President. What a treat! He was so knowledgeable, intriguing, and kind. They have some really interesting artifacts at this place. They aren't labeled super well, so the tour is a must. It's a small Museum, just one floor, but it packs in so many artifacts and history, including a threatening letter from the Black Hand to the family of the president of this place! It is inexpensive and will take you less than an hour. A must-do if you are traveling through Little Italy!"
"The Italian American Museum is dedicated to exploring the rich cultural heritage of Italy and Italian Americans by presenting the personal and civic struggles and achievements of Italian immigrants and their heirs. Collecting, preserving, and interpreting tangible artifacts, oral history, and cultural traditions, the Italian American Museum displays notable contributions. The building itself is a cultural and educational artifact - the historic Stable Bank which served Italians and Italian Americans. The Italian American Museum sponsors exhibitions, festivals, lectures, symposia, exhibitions, live performances, and travel programs focus on Italy and its global contributions."
"Great experience to see the Italian American story with photos and objects. A feeling similar to the NY Tenement Museum, because of the building and surroundings Little Italy. Make it part of the bigger picture by taking time to stroll on Mott St."
"I have been there a few tines Enjoyed every visit. It is run strictly from volunteers out of love, so hours are limited. I hope they can get more support and hours tours, etc. can be added. It is run on bare bones, I would like to see it grow/extended. Cannot wait to see Bruno SanMartino's belts, that was added, he was my grandma's pride and joy."
"Italian American Disgrace it should be named…..this farce of a place says it's about preserving our culture???? Above this joke of a "museum" lives an 85 woman who has lived there her entire life…guess what folks..they want to EVICT HER!!!! They want to more then triple her rent…she is on a fixed income…..so out she goes????? Seriously this is what we would call a "desgraciad" in Sicilian dialect…..we will not be quiet about this and this should not happen….."
