Reviews
"I joined the parish in 2002, and it's been my spiritual home ever since. The community is the warmest in all of New York City - made up of people who really are from all walks of life, from every part of NYC. We don't always agree with one another, but we make room to listen and learn together."
"I'd heard good things about this church from several friends over the years, but never got the chance to visit. One rainy February, a meeting I had downtown wrapped up early, so I stopped by the Ash Wednesday service. I went to services the next Sunday, and have continued attending whenever I've been able ever since. The church has great music and preaching and is a wonderful, welcoming community. The welcome here doesn't come with an asterisk, either. Even if you can only attend the occasional weekly service (which was my situation when I started going), the clergy will still go out of their way to make you feel like this is your home. Recently, my wife and I relocated to a new city right as the pandemic started. The church's quick pivot to virtual programming was a lifeline to us during this horrible year, when we felt especially stranded."
"Calvary - St. George's is an amazing church! Rev. Jacob Smith and the entire clergy preach the Gospel of Jesus's love and forgiveness boldly with a heartfelt and scholarly approach. My faith, spirituality, and understanding of Jesus and what it means to be a Christian has grown tremendously since I first came to an Easter service 9 years ago. The parish community is warm and welcoming with so many ways to connect and engage. I consider this church, and parish my family and home in NYC. Come as you are, you are home."
"Solid. Welcoming. Clergy are good people. No perfection required here or acted. "Enjoy your Forgiveness" is Rector Rev. Jake's direction in the parish. Sunday services very well organized with social distancing and a great tech team for livestreaming."
"I’ve been attending Calvary/St. George’s for nearly 14 years, and can honestly say that I hope to attend for the next 14 years. Having been raised in a more conservative tradition (read: do-it-yourself Christianity), Calvary/St. George’s was the first church I ever attended where the Gospel message I was hearing really felt like “good news.” Since then, Cal/St.G’s became my home, and I feel more a part of the community than ever, as the people there attend not because of shared politics, class, or interests, but because of a shared view that we’re all sinners saved by grace."
