"Let me preface this by saying, I have loved this bank even through all their changes. But today was just absolutely ridiculous! I was in the drive-through, I had a passenger in my vehicle (we were next to the window). I was having a conversation with my passenger and I said something funny and we ended up having a good laugh about it. Until the woman who was taking care of us came back and had a nasty tone said "Are you laughing at me?" I gave her a dirty look because she had a nasty tone to her voice, and we both said no. This woman proceeded to stare us down, shaking her head at us before she put our banking stuff in the little drawer and pushed the button. STILL SHAKING HER HEAD!!! That was INCREDIBLY RUDE and INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL! How dare you give me an attitude like that and accusing me of laughing at you? I KNOW they can hear our conversation and we were NOT talking about this woman nor were we laughing about her. She was NOT in our conversation at all. If I didn't have to go work I would have went inside and made a formal complaint with management because her attitude was totally uncalled for and very unprofessional. I will NOT be returning to this location. I will NOT be doing ANY KIND of business with this location. It's a shame too, because this location is in the same town I live in and it's convenient. I'll go to a different Webster location, I don't need to be accused of something I didn't do nor do I deserve her attitude for something I didn't do."
"Ever since Sterling took over Astoria they've gone way, way down hill. Branches closing, ATMs not working properly, customer service worse than it was. My ATM card broke and I went into the Port Jefferson branch to get a replacement. They told me I'm "not entitled to one" because I only had a savings account. It didn't matter how much money I had in the account, without a checking account I can't have an ATM card. Why? "Cost savings". I decided to close my accounts and move to another bank. I went and asked for bank checks, they closed the accounts and issued checks, but post-dated them and DIDN'T TELL ME. When I brought the checks to the new bank to deposit I found I wasn't able to because of the incorrect date. Poor customer service? For sure. Incompetent? Most likely. Do they care? It doesn't seem that they do. Stay away! UPDATE November 15th - Sterling responded and asked me to contact them to discuss this further. I thought I had made it clear in my initial review that I was moving my accounts to another bank. That bank has already gone out of their way to accommodate me, working with me to sort out the issues with Sterling's post-dated checks. No, I have no interest in contacting Sterling to discuss further, the purpose of my review was to let others know what sort of experience to expect from this bank."
