Reviews of Brookhaven Country Day Camp and PreSchool
"Karen is disgustingly rude. When she was my daughter’s teacher she would smile in your face and the second you turn around, she had something smart to say. She makes faces and talks about other staff, parents and kids right in front of the children. My would come home and tell me new things she heard everyday which is completely unacceptable. So glad my kids were done with this place after Lois stepped down because it’s been nothing but a nightmare to date! PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE, don’t even consider this place! The buildings need to be completely renovated/updated as they look and smell like an old cottage! STAY AWAY!"
"Some great people keep this camp going…but the pool is unsafe, the archery range is littered with ticks, and staff doesn’t get a break or very good pay at all. Overall I would not send my children to this camp after seeing behind the scenes. It needs new facilities and plumbing to continue operating safely."
".y granddaughter loves it here ! Here's my problem parents put kids in here because they have to work they have jobs? I can understand a parent day at the end but to have so many days parents are invited to come watch dance. Gymnastics singing. If they can go kid is thrilled wat about those parents that can't. How does it make kid feel that the others parents are there but their parents are not ? & It makes parents feel horrible that their kid is upset and feels. Neglected the parent is upset and feels terrible it's a nice idea but should have one at end or two. But this is a problem for a lot of parents"
"I went here as a child, and now years later my daughter went here for a few summers. She loved it, except when there was an issue between a camper in her group calling her racially motivated names (age 7/8) and the camp suspended the child for 1 day and didn't do much to keep them separated or have the other girl appologize to my daughter. But..in general the place is accepting of all people I just didn't like the way they handled THAT situation... But I would recommend it to people as a great summer camp. Lots of activities, pools, gymnastic shows dance shows, they make you feel like family. Just need to work on how they handle certain situations. Great summer fun for the kids tho!"
"Warning! Stay away!! We were assigned this pre-k through Longwood and it was a nightmare. They judged my child from the moment he walked in the door. My child didn't adjust to the new school within the first week, and that's when it all began. They shouldn't be working with small children; they clearly have no patience. A parent teacher conference was called after 2-weeks (on my 3 almost 4 year old child). They didn't even give him a chance to adjust to a new place/people. It was made very clear that my child wasn't welcome there. Ms. Tracy stated OVER AND OVER she has 21 students, and how much work that is. She cant provide my son the time she felt he needs. Mind you my son has been in daycare since he was 6-months old; and wasnt ever an issue. They have a culture here; if your child doesn't fit the cookie cutter - they push to get you out. Longwood is aware of the culture they have; I am not the only parent having issues with this awful place. Ms. Tracy gave me reports about my child at the door in front of other parents (and in front of him); which can't be legal. Discussing my child in front of others wasn't appropriate or professional. The lack of communication all day and week long and choosing to "talk" to me at the door in front of others was poor timing. My son would be excited to see me, asking me things and the teacher would be talking over him to tell me how "bad" he was. Other parents would just look at me. One day my child "has special needs" and the next day "we teach independence". If my child has needs; lets treat him that way. They went back and forth with us - and it was nothing short of confusing. I had a routine with my son and things were sailing smoothly; Ms. Kelley would try to intimidate me on days by greeting me and telling me how I would do things and change them. This would disrupt my child, and the routine. Just consider this your warning! They have no business running a pre-school. Side Note: The housekeepers son rides around on their golf cart while they are cleaning inside the buildings, doing donuts on the lawn, and flying onto the roadway where you walk with your child, or drive. The boy is about 10 or 12 years old. I wont even get into the upkeep of the old buildings or lack there of...."
