Reviews
"If you’re old enough to have watched The Honeymooners, or the reruns of the show late at night, this statue is a nod to the show and the main character’s bus driver career. It’s easy to stop outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal, but if you go out the wrong exit you could miss it. No wait, no line, no crowds. Grab a quick picture of the statue or take a selfie with Ralph. Worth a stop if you’re nearby for this quick sightseeing experience."
"Loved the Honeymooners and was thrilled when I happened to find this my first walk through NYC!!"
"Sorry, Statue Of Liberty fans, but if there is one work of art that IS QUINTESSENTIAL NEW YORK, it is the Ralph Kramden Statue located on Eighth Avenue just off West 40th Street, right in front of the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The statue is dedicated to the character of Ralph Kramden, played marvelously by legendary comedian Jackie Gleason on the TV show "The Honeymooners". Unlike today's typical worker in the city, Ralph isn't in an office cubicle, making thousands of dollars a week; instead he drives a bus (or brives a dus) for a living, living from paycheck to paycheck with a salary that couldn't drip out, not in a luxury high rise, but a drab apartment three long blocks from the subway. Ralph Kramden is the epitome of the everyday man, just going to work, and trying to make a living the best he can, which is why his character has such an endearing and enduring charm. Being a bus driver, what more appropriate place is there to display a statue of one than the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the primary bus hub of New York City?"
"PROS: One of my favorite comedians of the mid 20th century. I loved The Honeymooners and will always look at this statue when I come into the city. This statue strikes his proud pose stance and he's in his famous uniform that you see in the Honeymooners. It even has a plaque that tells you a little about him CONS: It's hard to make out his face at first. Doesn't really look exactly like him OVERALL: If you're a fan of his show I suggest you stop by if you're around the port authority area"
"An interesting monument located just outside the Port Authority building at 40th Street and 8th Ave is that of Ralph Kramdon, the loveable bus driver played by Jackie Gleason in the 1950's era TV sitcom 'The Honeymooners'. The monument is the works of sculptor, Larry Nowlan and was erected in 2000. Here you will see an 8-foot tall bronze figure of Ralph Kramden dressed in his bus driver uniform, standing upright with lunch box in his right hand and while straightening his shirt colour with his left. Kramden is see smiling and every jolly. This is a neat monument to find if you are a fan of The Honeymooners or someone who simply curious about various monuments you come across during your travels."
