About the The Louis Armstrong Center
Welcome to The Louis Armstrong Center, a vibrant museum dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of one of the most influential figures in music history. Located at 34-47 107th Street, Queens, New York 11368, our newly constructed center opened in 2023, marking a new chapter in honoring Louis Armstrong's enduring impact on music and culture.
At the heart of our center is the landmark multimedia exhibition, "Here to Stay," curated by the acclaimed pianist, composer, and Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz, Jason Moran. This exhibition provides an immersive look into Armstrong’s five-decade career, showcasing his role as an innovative musician, dedicated archivist, and community builder. As Moran describes, it is "a declaration of Louis Armstrong’s infinite love of music and humanity."
Our center serves as the permanent home for the extensive 60,000-piece archive of Louis and Lucille Armstrong, featuring a 75-seat venue for performances, lectures, films, and educational experiences. Designed by Caples Jefferson Architects, the 14,000-square-foot building reflects the Armstrongs’ deep connection to their community and neighbors in Corona, Queens.
We invite musicians, jazz enthusiasts, scholars, and our local neighbors to explore the Armstrongs' story from a fresh perspective. With the support of partners like Queens College and the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, we aim to make the center a hub for inspiration, learning, economic development, and tourism.
The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation generously donated the Armstrong archives in the 1980s and funded the lot for the new center. With the advocacy of CUNY, Queens College, and state and city officials, the $26 million building was realized, with funds from various governmental offices and led by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).
The Louis Armstrong Center embodies the values of Artistic Excellence, Education, and Community. Our mission is to preserve Armstrong’s legacy, feature groundbreaking performances, and engage both local and global communities in meaningful programming. Join us at the Armstrong Corona campus, a Queens-based hub that cements Armstrong’s legacy as a pivotal figure in American and global history.

Reviews of The Louis Armstrong Center
"Every single employee of this landmark house and museum located in Corona, Queens would make Mr. Armstrong proud. They are educated, dignified, fiercely protective of his immeasurable musical and human legacy and warmly professional. Emily in particular went out of her way to ensure that I left with all the supplies that I was looking for as an educator and ardent admirer of the amazing musician who can teach us all a thing or two about discipline, tenacity and the power of music, regardless of the genre. I will be returning as there are many events including yoga classes associated with the musical improvisations and jazz concerts. Schools nowadays do not know the difference between a melody or senseless rhythms so places like the Louis Armstrong House Museum are crucial cultural centers. Thank you Emily."
