"Layout of the place is nice with pews on all sides creating a surround sound Catholic experience . Low key , warm relaxed vibe . Not stuffy . Parishioners wearing dresses , slacks , sports jackets as well as shorts , khakis , and flip flops . Everyone just content to be worshipping together again . Wheelchair accessible entrance on 1st avenue for those that may need it . Really appreciate that they offer a 5:30 pm Sunday service . From the looks of the crowd I’m not the only one ;) Peace be with you St. John and also with you , reader ."

"Sunday evening mass available.Handicap accessible from street level. Conveniently close to Sutton Place neighborhood. Chapel like feel but can accommodate over 100 people."

". Exceptional Sutton Place Area house of worship for Roman Catholics and open to all faiths that was a repurposed site from many years ago. . Peaceful, soft and calming atmosphere, as still another mid-Manhattan Oasis for prayer, meditation and reflection. . Just great to stop in when in the area to find peace, tranquility and quietude. Warm and inviting fellow communicants. ."

"Fr Mathers gives great homilies and I love the way he celebrates mass. He is a caring pastor as well. His cheerfulness is infectious. I go out of my way to attend the 7 am daily mass at St. John the Evangelist. It is all about Fr Mathers and the liturgy, however. It's not a particularly beautiful church. It's carved out of a corner of an office building. Go for the main event and not for the architecture."
