Reviews
"I’ve visited this store while in the mall. They have a decent extremely over priced selection of vinyl records and over priced tee shirts with a peppering of toys also too expensive. In terms of comics there’s a very small area with limited selection. This place is certainly not what I’d call a comic book store. If you have absolutely nothing better to do and happen to be in the Staten Island mall that’s fine. As far as comic books, I’d say don’t waste your time. Nothing to see here."
"Really good place to find comics, manga, and vinyl records, although everything else in the store is over priced. I would not suggest buying the manga box sets there because usually you can get the same thing for a better price online and their boxsets overall seem over priced, however the regular manga itself is fairly priced."
"This is a great place to buy toys, manga and records - but the actual comic book section is, sadly, an afterthought. Stuffed together on one rack, they are near impossible to look through. If the people setting up the display don't care about the books don't care, the next generation of comic book readers won't care either."
"I was thrilled when this store was opened. Collectables, comics, trading cards, everything that you would want as anyone who is a fan of any of the myriad of series that they provide merchandise for. But, after so many visits and uncomfortable experiences there I have to say I don't think I'll be supporting them anymore. Several times in the past have I been followed around the store almost immediately upon entering while browsing. Another time my girlfriend was accused of stealing when she knelt down to look at one of the shirts they have on shelves in the back of the store. What is most striking however is nearly every single one of their collectable items is marked up. Not the normal and acceptable amount that you would expect and be okay with paying like $1 or $2. Instead, many of their items have nearly a 30% markup. Blind-bag keychains available at other stores around the mall including hot topic which is two stores down? Around $13.99 when they are around $9.99 at others. Pop figures, which are usually $10 online and $12 at other stores? I've seen $15.99 to $19.99 for basic non-exclusive figures, with prices being abnormally high for other kinds of figures. The small section of Nendoroids which are usually priced at $59.99 - $79.99 depending on the figure and the amount of accessories are priced from $69.99 to $139.99! Core class Transformers available at Target, the plaza just before the mall which go for $9.99, voyager class figures which go for $24.99, leader class figures which go for $49.99, all of these go for $17.99-$19.99, $30.00, and $59.99, respectively in Newbury Comics. Many of their trading cards are HEAVILY marked up when compared to any other store. There are card packs sold here which go for $12 which sell for $7 just two doors down in hot topic. I could go on with many more examples, but I instead encourage you to venture into the store, pull out your phone and price check any item you find yourself having interest in to see my point. In terms of employees, some employees are absolutely lovely and clearly love working there with others constantly yelling across the store about how much they hate the customers they have inside. Customer service can be a rough job that makes you hate people, I get it, but to talk openly about it while accusing paying customers of stealing is also a bit bold. I have been a patron of this store since it has opened but I want others to know just how much they seem to not care about their customers. I want this store to stick around, but at this point I am so disappointed with their management and and with their pricing that I would rather not support them any further. They need new management."
